Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has dismissed claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is on the verge of splitting, insisting that the party remains united despite internal pressures.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, January 26, 2026, the Senate Minority Whip said the Orange party is merely in “survival mode,” countering media reports suggesting divisions within the opposition outfit.

“Media’s DEAD WRONG: ODM isn’t splitting! It’s survival mode. That’s why my friends are pushing back hard,” Olekina wrote.

The senator argued that the perceived rifts within ODM are a natural outcome of political competition and internal realignments as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. He maintained that the party’s leadership remains intact and focused on navigating the evolving political landscape.

Olekina also weighed in on Nairobi politics, urging ODM Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, along with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, to “play smart” in managing city politics. He noted that Nairobi’s cosmopolitan and liberal voter base requires nuanced political strategies that reflect the city’s diverse ethnic composition.

“Nairobi politics does not control ODM’s future. Sifuna and Babu get it. They won the city voters who are cosmopolitan and liberal. With the Kamba and Kikuyu being the majority in the city, they want leaders who speak their true language, the one from their kingpins,” Olekina stated.

He further highlighted the enduring influence of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka among the Kamba community, describing his support as crucial in shaping the 2027 political landscape.

“Kalonzo’s influence as Kamba leader was huge in past elections and no doubt in 2027 too. Any smart politician must be seen doing that,” he said.

Olekina also referenced former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s growing prominence, warning that his tribal-based political messaging could resonate with certain voter blocs. He urged ODM leaders to remain strategic and responsive to shifting political dynamics.

“Riggy G sees himself as big power. His tribal narrative could convince many to listen. Sifuna and Babu must play smart! I feel them,” Olekina added.

The Narok Senator’s remarks come amid heightened speculation over internal tensions within ODM, as the party recalibrates its strategy ahead of the next general election.
