Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has revisited her late brother Raila Odinga’s strong rebuttal of claims that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.
In a post shared on her official Facebook page on Monday, February 9, 2026, Ruth reflected on a pointed remark by the late former prime minister, recalling how he questioned the origin of assertions suggesting ODM had abandoned its presidential ambitions.
”Who told you,” she wrote.
Her remarks come amid renewed internal debate within ODM over its political direction following Raila’s passing, with some members calling for a re-evaluation of the party’s strategy ahead of the next polls.
Ruth’s recollection referenced Raila’s statement made on Monday, September 22, 2025, when he publicly dismissed speculation that ODM might not front a candidate in 2027. Speaking during a party event, Raila cautioned members against making commitments on behalf of the party without proper consultation or approval.
At the time, he emphasized that ODM had its own roadmap and that decisions regarding the 2027 elections would be made collectively and at the appropriate time.
“So, wherever you are, don’t commit the party to some things which have not been discussed. Let those things be discussed first. We are ODM. Who’s told you that ODM will not have a candidate in 2027, who has told you?” Raila said during the event.
Ruth’s latest remarks appear to reaffirm the late ODM leader’s stance, signaling that ODM’s leadership remains guided by Raila’s vision of internal consultation and political independence as the party charts its course toward 2027.
