Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced plans to carry out a nationwide tally of Kenyans who identify with the popular slogan “Sisi Ndio Sifuna” before making a decision on whether to vie for the presidency.
Speaking during an interview with an international television outlet aired on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the outspoken senator said the exercise will help him gauge the level of support he commands across the country. He emphasized that the tally will serve as a foundation for his next political move.
Sifuna explained that those who identify with the slogan must also commit to registering as voters and turning up to vote on election day.
The senator recalled the 2022 general election, where President William Ruto won by a margin of about 200,000 votes, noting that the outcome could have been different if the eight million registered voters who failed to turn up had participated.
According to Sifuna, his decision to initiate the tally stems from the realization that many political slogans in the past have generated excitement but failed to translate into actual votes. He said the exercise will help determine whether his movement has genuine electoral strength or is merely a social media trend.
He further urged political leaders to focus on understanding why millions of registered voters abstain from elections, arguing that addressing voter apathy is key to strengthening democracy.
Sifuna concluded that only after completing the tally and confirming the commitment of his supporters to vote will he consider running for the presidency, a move that many Kenyans have been encouraging him to take.
