Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has blamed drug and alcohol abuse among the youth, as well as poor parenting, for the surge in online criticism of President William Ruto and his administration.
Speaking at AIC Makutano in Meru county yesterday, CS Murkomen said freedom of expression without control was dangerous and that those trolling the government online should have limits.
“Most of the young people who are writing hateful messages on social media are struggling with mental health caused by abuse of drugs and alcohol. People say let the Gen Zs say and do what they want. Let me tell you, freedom without control is dangerous for our society and for our children,” the Interor CS said.
Murkomen further expressed the government’s growing frustrations of arresting the online trolls, whom he says never leave their residences and create content from the comforts of their homes.
