A 17-year-old Rihanna released her first-ever album, Music of the Sun, in August 2005.
On that day, she probably never imagined she would go on to become one of the biggest stars of the 21st century. Not only did she establish herself as a singer and actress, but also as a businesswoman.
And she is thanking her millions of fans for their support during this journey.
On August 29, the pop star and actress celebrated a major career milestone, marking 20 years in the industry. She has nothing but heartfelt gratitude for her fans who made her into the star she is today.
The Barbadian star, born Robyn Fenty, penned a lengthy, heartfelt note celebrating the milestone in her career.
“20 years ago, I left my country, my culture, my food, and family to embark on a journey that started with the release of my very first body of music!” she began her post.
“So many of you were a part of my life and career since the very beginning, and some of you have joined the adventure along the way. I’m forever grateful to all of you. Each of you played a very crucial role in where this journey has taken me thus far!”
Alongside the note, Rihanna also shared a video that looked back at all her accomplishments over the past two decades. It began with a quick look at all her iconic pictures over the years, followed by some record-breaking career statistics, such as “Most diamond certified singles by a female artist,” “Two-time Emmy Award winner,” and “nine Grammys,” among others.
The video featured some of her iconic performances, award-winning moments, magazine covers, charity work and snippets of her brand Fenty. At one point in the 2-minute-25-second-long clip, she also said, “Well-behaved b—s seldom make history.” The clip also showed her family, including her partner, A$AP Rocky, and her two sons, RZA and Riot. She is currently pregnant with her third baby.
Further in her note, Rihanna thanked her fans, team and all those who supported her, saying, “I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you! Thank you for the greatest first 20 years ever! 20 years of the most loyal, die-hard fans that don’t play about me whatsoever, 20 years of hard work and hardworking teams around me, 20 years of lessons, 20 years of unforgettable experiences and accomplishments. 20 years of my family being my number one support system, and to all the people who said yes to me and gave me a chance before it was “cool” to (Execs, DJ’s, writers, producers, dancers, choreographers, directors, fashion designers, photographers, glam, journalists, brands, mentors, etc etc) 20 years worth of thanks to you!!”
“I thank God, He’s been very generous to me, and the Glory belongs to Him! #R20,” she ended the message by thanking the Almighty and the hashtag dedicated to her fans.
