 A Dutch national has been arrested in Diani, Kwale County, after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, damaging property and possessing suspected narcotics, according to a police report.

Police identified the suspect as Elwin Ter Horst, who allegedly caused a commotion at Boma Banda Cottage along Beach Road on Tuesday afternoon before locking himself inside his room.

In the report filed at Diani Police Station under OB 32/28/10/2025, police noted: “It was reported by the management of Boma Banda Cottage that there was a guest creating disturbance and commotion in the facility and was assaulting his girlfriend. Police officers from Diani Police Station under the command of the OCS rushed to the said cottage. Upon arrival, it was established that the caretaker and the guards had rescued the girlfriend one Angela Atieno Onduru, and rushed her to Diani Beach Hospital.”

The report further stated that “the suspect, who is a foreigner, had caused damage in the cottage and locked himself inside his booked room. He refused to open even after being informed of the police presence. After lengthy persuasion, he finally opened the door.”

Police said a whitish substance suspected to be narcotic drugs weighing about three grams was recovered from the suspect during a search.

“The suspect was escorted to the station where he was placed in lawful police custody while appearing drunk,” read the report.

 “He will be charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, malicious damage to property, creating disturbance at the cottages and creating disturbance in a police building by blowing mucus through his nostrils on an officer in uniform.”
