The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched a sweeping investigation into the management of funds in Nyamira County, following early-morning raids on multiple premises linked to Governor Amos Nyaribo and senior county officials.

The Wednesday operation, conducted simultaneously in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi counties, targeted both official offices and private residences believed to contain crucial financial records related to the construction of the new county headquarters.

According to sources close to the probe, the EACC is examining how Sh382 million earmarked for the project was utilized and whether the disbursements reflect the actual progress on the ground. Investigators are also tracking the procurement process to establish how contracts were awarded and who authorized the payments.

Armed with court-issued warrants, EACC officers seized files, laptops, and electronic data, which will be analyzed alongside contractor progress reports to verify compliance and identify any discrepancies. The Commission said the move aims to preserve original documentation and prevent possible tampering with evidence.

Officials familiar with the case indicated that the operation forms part of a broader crackdown targeting irregular spending in county infrastructure projects, where inflated costs and suspect procurement patterns have become recurrent concerns.

Although no arrests have been made so far, the Commission emphasized that its primary objective is to determine whether the Nyamira headquarters project adhered to legal and financial accountability standards and ultimately, whether taxpayers received value for their money.
