Who killed our teacher?
Leaders and residents of Lugari in Kakamega County are demanding answers following the mysterious and questionable death of Munyuki High School Principal Simon Shange.
Leaders, including Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) director of Communications Philip Etale have raised questions regarding the teacher’s death and called on investigating agencies to swing into action immediately.
Following the events leading to the teacher’s body’s retrieval in Kipkaren River, it is being suspected that he was tortured, killed, the accident staged and his body dumped in the river.
The decorated teacher mysteriously disappeared after he was allegedly involved in a road accident on November 3.
According to public information, Shange was on his way to collect examination papers for his Form Four candidates early in the morning of the fateful day.
Later, it was said he had been involved in a road accident after his family and colleagues lost contact with him with his mangled car being spotted along the Malaba-Eldoret Highway around Turbo area.
However, he was not at the scene of the now suspect accident and went missing for six days.
On Saturday, November 8, his body was retrieved from Kipkaren river.
The body was decomposing and had missing fingers, parts of which were not seen at the scene of accident though.
“I have confirmed it is Mwalimu. He must have been tortured before being dumped into the River. Some of his fingers were missing,”Mr Benson Muyanda, Shange’s colleague, said after positively identifying the body.
Sources have intimated that the principal had earlier feared for his life and had indicated that he had received threats on his life.
The threats, he said, stemmed from his firm stand against pressure from external forces who had an interest in manipulating the running of the school.
These fears on his life have caught the attention of the country and leaders from the constituency.
In an exclusive interview, Etale said that it had been the desire of many people that the teacher would be found alive in a hospital receiving treatment following the accident as many had thought that he could have been rushed to hospital by good Samaritans.
According to Etale, Shange had transformed the once little-known school into a giant beating many other bigger schools both in academics and co-curricular activities.
Etale questioned how possible it was that an accident happened somewhere else but the body found in a river kilometres away.
To him, all these points at well calculated murder and efforts by perpetrators to conceal their crime.
“We want to know, where this accident happened. Who was involved in the rescue mission that involved in the rescue mission that led to the dumping of Mr Shange in the river Kipkaren.
“We want police officers and other security agencies to launch investigations into this murder, because this is murder, you cannot be involved in an accident at a point then found in a river,” he said.
“We read mischief in this. There is something amiss. The dots cannot be connected. How did Mr Shange find himself where his body has been retrieved. The people of Lugari as asking these questions,” he added.
Etale has vowed that as Lugari residents, they are not going to keep quiet until answers and justice for Mr Shange is realized.
He said that they will not be intimidated and silenced or be forced into doing things against their will.
He has called upon all teachers in Lugari to rise up and demand answers why their colleague was killed.
“What crime did he commit?” he quipped.
