A woman from Mombasa has been detained by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on suspicion of planning a violent robbery against a British man.

After enticing her British boyfriend to her flat for what was meant to be a “dream date”, the lady allegedly organised an attack against him.

Detectives claim that the suspect had been courting the Briton online for months, enchanting him with assurances of eternal love.

The man finally paid her a visit in Nyali after weeks of nonstop correspondence.

Just a few minutes into their encounter, the door sprang open and two guys entered, one posing as the woman’s husband and the other flashing a phoney police ID.

According to the DCI report, even as the fictitious police officer threatened to arrest the foreigner, the purported husband accused the Briton of destroying his house.

The British man was so terrified by the situation that he had to send Sh800,000 to the gang members’ mobile numbers to be released.

The foreigner sought assistance from the DCI after the incident, and detectives pursued the woman and one of her accomplices based on forensic intelligence.

Since then, investigations have shown that the two are members of an infamous racket that uses dating sites to entice foreigners, places them in rented apartments, and steals their hard-earned money.

While the detectives begin a quest for the third suspect, the two suspects are presently in police custody and undergoing processing pending arraignment.
