Bungoma County Governor Kenneth Lusaka on Friday graced the 16th graduation ceremony of St. Paul’s Kibabii Diploma Teachers Training College in Syombe, Bumula, where he commended teachers for their unwavering dedication to service and urged the new graduates to uphold integrity as they enter the profession.
The ceremony marked a historic milestone for the institution as 100 teacher trainees graduated under the first cohort of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), ushering in a new generation of educators trained to nurture creativity, innovation and learner-centered competencies.
“A graduation like this one is a culmination of hard work and commitment for a period of three years,” he said. “You remained focused, and today you reap the reward of that perseverance.”
He described the 2025 graduation as “particularly special,” noting that it marks the beginning of a new chapter in teacher education, one that aligns with the demands of 21st-century learning.
“Our nation is investing in teachers who can prepare learners for a fast-changing world,teachers who can think critically, use technology effectively, and solve real-life problems,” he noted. “The CBE curriculum lays emphasis on individual learners’ talents and skills.”
He praised the institution for its strong contribution to the county’s education sector, saying many of Bungoma’s outstanding teachers trace their skills to Kibabii TTC.
“As the County Government of Bungoma, we recognize that education is the backbone of sustainable development,” he emphasized. “We remain committed to supporting teacher education and expanding opportunities for continuous professional growth.”
Lusaka assured the institution of continued support, stating that through his networks he would engage local leaders and education stakeholders to mobilize resources and address some of the challenges currently facing the college.
The governor reaffirmed the county’s vision of strengthening early childhood education, improving learning facilities and enhancing digital literacy through the County Education Fund and partnerships with training institutions.
“We envision a future where every child in our ECDE centres, junior schools and senior schools learns under a well-trained, motivated and competent teacher ;a teacher like the ones we are celebrating today,” he added.
