A Step Towards Dignified Living: President Ruto Launches Boma Yangu Railway City Estate

• In a significant step towards addressing the country’s housing needs, His Excellency President William Ruto launched the construction of over 2,200 housing units under the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate Phase 1A. The project, set on 42 acres in Nairobi, will feature eight high-rise towers delivering 586 social, 931 affordable, and 744 market-rate homes.
The launch event, held on 28/06/2025, was attended by notable figures, including Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, who emphasized the project’s importance in transforming Nairobi’s urban landscape. Mainga highlighted that the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate would not only provide decent housing but also stimulate economic growth through job creation and infrastructure development.
“The integration of rail and housing infrastructure is a game-changer for our city,” Mainga said. “This project will enhance connectivity, reduce commute times, and improve the overall quality of life for residents. By providing affordable housing options, we can attract and retain talent, boost economic activity, and create a more vibrant and sustainable community.”
The Boma Yangu Railway City Estate is a flagship project under the government’s affordable housing initiative. The project aims to provide dignified living for all Kenyans, particularly low- and middle-income earners who have been priced out of the housing market.
The project will feature a range of amenities, including schools, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, and recreational spaces. The development will be designed to be environmentally sustainable, with green spaces, energy-efficient buildings, and waste management systems.
In his remarks, President Ruto emphasized the government’s commitment to providing decent housing for all Kenyans. “This project is a testament to our determination to address the housing needs of our people,” he said. “We believe that every Kenyan deserves a decent place to call home, and we are working tirelessly to make that a reality.”
The launch of the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing. The project is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of Kenyans, particularly in Nairobi, where housing demand far outstrips supply.
Special thanks to Philip Mainga for his attendance and support, which underscores the value of collaboration in driving progress. The Kenya Railways Managing Director’s involvement in the project highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in delivering national development projects.
