CS Njeru Leads National Tree Planting Day Initiative in Kajiado County

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Zachariah Njeru EGH, took the lead in the National Tree Planting Day initiative at Namanga Hills, Kajiado County. This initiative aligns with President Dr. William Ruto’s directive to enhance the country’s tree cover.

The tree planting exercise is part of a broader effort to achieve the recommended 30% tree cover by 2032. President Ruto’s initiative aims to plant and nurture 15 billion trees over the next decade, encouraging widespread participation in tree planting and adoption.

Incorporating an ethos of environmental stewardship, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation seeks to instill a culture of tree planting to foster a generation that values and protects its natural surroundings.

Addressing the significance of the initiative, CS Njeru highlighted the role of trees in mitigating climate change and enhancing community resilience. He emphasized that while the impacts of climate change, such as frequent floods, are evident, collective action through tree planting offers hope and tangible solutions.

Njeru emphasized the profound impact of planting trees, citing their role in absorbing carbon dioxide, stabilizing soil, and regulating water cycles. He underscored trees as symbols of resilience, growth, and hope, representing humanity’s commitment to building a sustainable future.

On National Tree Planting Day, CS Njeru called for unity in fostering a greener future, urging individuals to participate in the initiative. By planting trees, communities not only contribute to environmental restoration but also strengthen defenses against climate-related disasters like floods.

Njeru rallied citizens to join hands in sowing the seeds of a resilient future, one tree at a time. The initiative represents a collective endeavor to combat climate change and build a more sustainable world for generations to come.
