The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arrested five suspects accused of kidnapping in Thindigua, Kiambu County.

The dramatic rescue unfolded after the victim’s girlfriend received a disturbing phone call. When she called her boyfriend’s phone, an unfamiliar voice demanded a ransom of 500,000 Kenyan shillings for his release.

Acting on intelligence leads, the detectives immediately launched a manhunt.

They found the victim in distress, with visible injuries, wearing a blood-stained shirt.

The rescue mission culminated in the arrest of five suspects near Quickmatt Thindigua.

Two getaway vehicles were seized during the arrest.

Searching the vehicles led to the recovery of key evidence, including a kitchen knife, ten mobile phones of various types, and a tablet computer.

Investigations revealed that the kidnappers had already received Sh68,000 in ransom by the time of the arrests.

All five suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing, pending their court appearance.

This is one of many kidnapping cases in which the police have successfully intervened.

Earlier this week, the DCI arrested a 33-year-old man accused of kidnapping a seven-year-old boy in the Mwihoko area of Kiambu County.

In a statement issued by DCI on their social media handle, the harrowing ordeal began when the parents of the victim went shopping at a supermarket in Mwihoko.

While shopping, they suddenly realised that their son had gone missing and began searching for him.

”In their moment of desperation, they received a call from an unknown individual who claimed to have their son and demanded a ransom of Sh100,000 for his safe return,” DCI said.

It was then that security officers sprang into action in an effort to retrieve the child.

The rescue operation was conducted with well-coordinated efforts by police officers and detectives based at Githurai Police Station.

”Determined to bring the child home, officers sprang into action. Through forensic trails, they flushed the suspect out of his hideout in the Githurai Railway area,” DCI stated.

The child was rescued by the officers and reunited with his parents.

The suspect remains under custody, undergoing processing as he awaits his court appearance.
