The Harambee Starlets received a warm welcome at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport yesterday evening following their triumphant return from Senegal, where they secured a historic qualification to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Kenya sealed their spot in the continental tournament after defeating The Gambia 4–1 on aggregate, marking a major milestone for the national women’s football team.

Head coach Beldine Odemba, captain Dorcas Shikobe, and goalkeeper Lilian Awuor expressed pride and gratitude for the team’s performance, crediting their success to teamwork, resilience, and strong support from fans back home.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice President McDonald Mariga and NEC Women Representative Kerubo Momanyi joined the team in celebrating the achievement, describing it as a testament to the growth of women’s football in Kenya.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed lauded the Starlets’ determination, noting that their qualification represents a significant step forward for the nation’s football ambitions.

At the airport, officials including Evans Achoki, Secretary of Administration at the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, commended the players for flying the Kenyan flag high and pledged continued government support for women’s sports development.

The Harambee Starlets will now shift focus to their preparations for WAFCON 2026, where they aim to make a lasting impact on the continental stage.
