Isiolo County Assembly latest to close shop for two weeks following cases of Covid-19 cases

The Isiolo County Assembly suspended operations for 14 days following confirmed cases of Covid-19 among staff at the Assembly.

In a statement from the Assembly’s Clerk, Salad Boru, the County Board issued the directive after a plenary sitting on Thursday of October 29, 2020.

“Fumigation of the county assembly compound commences on October 30,” he said.

The Clerk further stated that those experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 such as sore throat, fever and difficulty breathing are required to self isolate and seek medical attention as per Health Ministry guidelines.

Isiolo County Assembly becomes sixth to suspend its operations this month after Uasin Gishu, Homa Bay, Mombasa, Bungoma and Kakamega.

On Thursday, Kakamega County Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment.

Sumbi passed away on Thursday morning at the Lifecare Hospital in Bungoma where he had been transferred by the Kakamega County General Hospital after his condition deteriorated on Wednesday evening.

He is one of the county officials who have contracted the virus in recent days.

He was to undergo dialysis since he suffered kidney failure and could not be attended to at the general hospital, being Covid-19 positive.

The county headquarters had been shut down the previous day following reports that 57 health workers tested positive for the virus.

Kakamega County boss Wycliffe Oparanya, who is also the Council of Governors Chairperson, issued a directive that all county government workers undergo mandatory testing.

Oparanya said that sensitization programmes on the virus will be intensified at the grassroots levels, involving chiefs and their assistants, County Government Administrators and medical personnel.
