Faith Kipyegon, Kenya’s middle-distance queen and current mile world record holder, is set to attempt a historic sub-four-minute mile on June 26, 2025, in Paris. This ambitious endeavor is part of Nike’s elite “Breaking 4” project, aimed at pushing the boundaries of human athletic performance.

Barnaba Korir, the Director of Youth Development at Athletics Kenya, has publicly voiced strong support for Kipyegon’s attempt, expressing complete confidence in her ability to break barriers. “Faith will break that record without much fuss… we are going to witness history,” Korir stated in a recent interview. He praised her consistency, discipline, and unwavering focus, which have made her one of the most dominant figures in global athletics.

Kipyegon currently holds the women’s mile world record at 4:07.64, which she set in 2023. To dip under four minutes, she must cut over seven seconds off this time an enormous feat in middle-distance running. Although the attempt may include pacemakers and technological assistance that could render the time unofficial, the symbolism and athletic significance remain unmatched.

Speaking on the upcoming challenge, Kipyegon shared a powerful message: “I want this attempt to say to women, ‘You can dream and make your dreams valid.’” Her words reflect not just a personal mission but a broader push for female empowerment through sport.

With three Olympic gold medals and multiple world titles, Faith Kipyegon’s legacy is already etched in history. However, this daring attempt could elevate her status further, redefining the limits of female endurance and inspiring generations to come. All eyes now turn to Paris as the world awaits another iconic moment in athletics.
