Lawyers on Friday in Various counties staged Purple Ribbon march for slain advocate Mbobu Mathew Kyalo
Lawyers in Nairobi began the procession from Milimani donned a Purple Ribbon March to police headquarters in Nairobi to protest the killing of Mbobu Mathew Kyalo, an advocate killed in cold blood.
Kyalo, a former chairperson of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal and lecturer at the University of Nairobi, was shot dead on Tuesday, September 9 while driving on Magadi Road in Karen. Police said two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at close range before fleeing.
“The brutal gunning down of Mbobu Mathew Kyalo Advocate has shaken the legal fraternity and raised urgent questions about the safety of advocates,” said Florence Muturi, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) secretary and chief executive.
The march started at 9 a.m. at the Supreme Court of Kenya before proceeding to Vigilance House, where lawyers will presented a petition to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
LSK President Faith Adhiambo has directed its branches across the country to organise similar marches and deliver petitions to county commissioners on the same day.
Muturi noted that the procession is intended to demand accountability and stronger protection for lawyers, adding that the killing undermines the integrity of the justice system.
The march comes two days after LSK issued statement condemning the attack and urging authorities to act swiftly.
