Police officers in Kieni constituency Nyeri county have arrested two suspects conducting a free medical camp in the area without necessary permissions from government and the hospital they claim to be working for.

The duo Hillary Murage and a lady identified by one name Mary sent invites to the locals through churches and public notices that doctors from Afya Bora Hospital Annex would treat various bone diseases free.

This attracted many senior citizens from the locality, a friend tipped-off Afya Bora Hospital Annex about the camp and they were not aware of such event.

The hospital CEO together with other officials rushed to the scene only to find people they initially associated with as clients masquerading as Afya Bora Hospital doctors.

The suspects told journalists on the ground that they are clinical health officers and this was a means of self employment as they would allegedly get paid through commissions by the hospital for referring patients.

Speaking to residents assembled at the scene for treatment, Afya Bora Hospital Annex CEO Dr. Wachira Warogo told them not to be lured by free things as it could be a trap to be conned.

“Whenever we carry on our medical camps, the county government, ministry of health and area security enforcers are acknowledged. These are not our doctors and we will ensure they face the law for impersonation, ‘treating’ and issuing drugs yet they are not qualified,” he said

He added that health is a right of every Kenyan and that they would organize a medical camp for residents soon.

The suspects will be arraigned on Tuesday.
