KPA staff to undergo mandatory Covid-19 vaccination, MD

All Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] front workers at the port of Mombasa will undergo mandatory vaccination for the COVID-19 pandemic.

KPA Managing Director Rashid Salim said he will ensure the front workers are vaccinated against the coronavirus.

He said he will make sure the workers do not lose the rare opportunity to be vaccinated by the government adding that he will make it a priority.“Members of the public should abide by the government protocol against the pandemic despite being vaccinated against the virus,” he said.
Rashid said all must adhere with the health guidelines whether they have been vaccinated or not.

He spoke when he led KPA senior managers in taking a jab of the vaccine at the Coast General hospital in Mombasa county.The KPA MD emphasized the importance or everybody being vaccinated against the pandemic which marks one year since its outbreak worldwide.

Rashid has lauded the government move to get the vaccine rather than letting Kenyans continue to be infected with the virus.

He said patients vaccinated with the Oxford Astrazeneca jab in line with the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic have a better chance of survival.

“The third wave of the pandemic has forced the management back to the drawing board and to send some employees with the illness to work from home,” he pointed out.The KPA MD said he regrets that one of the hard working employees has succumbed to the third wave of the virus infection in the course of the week.

Rashid said the authority has enforced more health measures when entering the port as a result of the emergence of the third wave outbreak.

“The rate of infection of the virus has gone up and I urge members of public both at work or at home to abide with the health protocol,” he said.
