Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) video editor Betty Barasa, who was shot dead last Wednesday, April 7 was on Wednesday laid to rest at Ololua, Ngong,Kajiado county.
Her requiem mass was conducted at Mbagathi Hospital Nairobi.
The journalist was killed by three gangsters, who detectives believe ought to have been on an elimination mission.
Since Thursday 8th, the detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have been visiting the scene of crime to study the circumstances under which the slain journalist was murdered and unmask the culprits.
In one of their frequent visits, the detectives discovered a mobile phone which was dumped around Betty’s compound, close to 50 meters from home which is presumed to be Barasa’s. They said that they’re studying the pattern of communication made by Betty Barasa through her phone.
The detectives also said that it will require them to employ tactics beyond mere professionalism to unmask the brutal killers since they wore gloves and balaclavas to evade leaving evidence and identity.
An autopsy carried out shows that a bullet was embedded in her head and that she died out of excessive bleeding.
The detectives are also conducting immense scrutiny of the companies that Betty worked with especially those that involved the government. They’ll also be trying to find out whether there were any huge payments or transactions made in the companies’ accounts that could be intertwined with the journalist’s killing.
However, the detectives have said that no arrest has been done so far,but they are working to unravel the mystery.
