Uhuru presides over destroying of illegal firearms in Kajiado County

President Uhuru Kenyatta has presided over the destruction of 5,144 illegal small arms and light weapons at the Regional Traffic Training Centre in Ngong, Kajiado County.

The illegal firearms were recovered last year with a majority of the illegal firearms were voluntarily surrendered by the public who heeded Government amnesty offers, and through the diligence of Kenya’s security agencies.

President Kenyatta was accompanied by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai and other senior government officials led in the destruction of the illegal fire arms.

In 2019, the Head of State presided over the destruction of 8,700 illegal firearms and 366,000 pieces of assorted ammunition at the General Service Unit (GSU) Magadi Field Training Campus in Kajiado County.

The President said the destruction of illegal firearms was one of the proactive measures being undertaken by the Government to guarantee security and safety of its citizens and their property.
