Joyce Murigi’s new book ‘Going the Distance’ urges parents to show love to kids

Parents have been urged to be there for their kids as they grow up.
Joyce Murigi author of ‘Going the Distance’ that was launched to the market on Wednesday at a Nairobi Hotel challenges parents to pay more attention to their children growing up.
She shares her own journey bring up a teenage boy facing similar challenges and the sacrifice she had to make to support her son’s passion for sport.
In the book, Murigi talks about the need for parents to strive to raise self-confident, balanced children who have good judgment and a strong sense of responsibility. She gave a keynote address during her book launch organized by Booktalk Africa.
‘Experience has shown us that kids grow without feeling parental love. The times we now live in are different. We us parents must strive to raise responsible kids. We owe it to them,’ Murigi said.
Murigi also says live for kids and especially teens is now a bit complex owing to the fact that there is the advent of social media and asks parents to be there for the kids and avoid being absentee parents.
The book highlights the courage to make tough decisions in parenting. The risk to tread an unknown path. The love of seeing your child connect to and exploit their full potential. The joy of beating all odds to achieve a worthwhile goal.
During the launch of the book, the author Joyce Murigi challenged parents to pay more attention to their growing children, helping them grow up in the new digital age as most of them are under pressure to live social media lifestyle which is not a true reflection of the reality in most cases.
