Thirdway Alliance expels top officials as purge on ‘errant’ members continues
Daniel Miruru, Angela Mwikali, Giovanna Bunnei, and Joan Lagat have been axed from their party positions as the purge on alleged errant members by the Thirdway Alliance Kenya goes on.
Their expulsion from the party was confirmed Friday following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday to deliberate the conduct of the four.
The party says it was established that the four, occupying the positions of Chairman, deputy party leader, women leader, and deputy youth leader, were guilty of what NEC termed as gross misconduct, indiscipline, and misdemeanor.
They are also said to have joined hands with former party leader Ekuru Aukot who is fighting to regain the leadership of the outfit in the court.
“As NEC, we cannot afford to have saboteurs in our midst especially at this moment in time when the party is out to prepare for 2022 general elections,” the party’s top decision-making organ said in a statement.
Over and above this, the party says the four absconded duty for more than four months hence qualifying for automatic expulsion from their positions and the party.
“This decision to expel the four members was made after extensively attempting to explore the provisions of articles 14 and 25 of the party constitution that provides for the disciplinary measures of party officials and internal dispute resolution mechanism (IDRM). These were several frustrated by the expelled officials,” NEC added
The top organ says it accorded the expelled officials an opportunity to defend themselves against complaints raised against them but they blatantly ignored.
“Instead, they chose to hold a series of illegal meetings among themselves in bars so as to frustrate the party operations,” the party indicated.
