Raila Calls for a Mass Vaccination to Contain Covid-19 Spread

The government has been challenged to conduct mass vaccination to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic to enable it open the country’s economy.

Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Raila Odinga lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in its efforts to contain the outbreak of the pandemic adding that there is room for improvement.

He insisted the only way to contain the spread of the deadly disease is through a mass vaccination campaign.

“The government must set aside sufficient funds for the mass vaccination campaign to enable it contain the spread of the virus,” he pointed out.

Raila urged the government to borrow a leaf from the mass vaccination campaigns in advanced countries to open up the country’s economy.

He spoke after attending a Sunday service at the Anglican Church of Kenya [ACK] Mombasa Memorial Cathedral in Mombasa County.

The ODM leader said advanced countries which have carried out mass vaccination campaigns have already opened their economies and they are on a recovery path.

Raila, who was accompanied by his daughter Ruth and Mvita legislator Adulswamad Sharif Nassir, told the media the program is the best way to go.

He reiterated time has come for the government to come up with an economic stimulus program to make the country’s economy recover.

“The government has a lot of options and ways and means towards the recovery from effects of the outbreak of the pandemic,” he insisted.

The former Prime Minster confirmed to journalists he held a private session with the Head of State on a friendly basis.

Raila insisted the meeting was private and not for media consumption.
