Kenya to receive additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine
Kenya will receive a second shipment of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines from the United Kingdom in yet another boost to ongoing efforts to vaccinate its adult population.
British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott said 407,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Tuesday night.
Kenya has received the first batch of 410,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses from the UK last month.
The UK government will have donated a total of 817,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Kenya, following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent tour of the UK.
The arrival of the vaccines accelerates the vaccines deployment plan with the government aiming to vaccinate 10 million Kenyans by December this year.
The health ministry is also expecting 13 million COVID-19 vaccine shots from Johnson & Johnson this month.
Kenya is battling a fourth wave with the Delta variant being dominant.
