Bunge la Mwananchi pass petition on environment & climate change

 Bunge la Mwananchi proved their critics wrong by passing a contentious petition on environment and Climate change. 

The petition was tabled recently and passed unanimously even before being read in the stipulated three times before proceeding to the next level.

  The respondents that included the office of the Governor’s of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and other 43 counties unanimously passed the petition during a well-attended sitting session held at a Ongata Rongai hotel in Kajiado county.

 The petitioners included Bunge la Mwanainchi, Ministry of Environment & climate change, and Hon David Onyango Otach who is the minister for Environment and Climate change in the outfit of people’s Parliament in Kenya .

 Also in attendance was National coordonator, Bunge la Mwananchi Jacob Omondi who pleaded with Independent Electorol & Boundaries Commission(IEBC) to extend the voters registration process for another extra month to capture more voters too allow free, fair and credible election exercise.

 The respondents included the office of the Governor’s of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos and other 43 counties.

Also involved were office of the speaker of  the named counties, Director General of Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS),Cabinet secretary for health, Environment,Director of Public health and the National Environment Management Authority(NEMA) among others

 In their petition, Bunge la Mwananchi raised the issue of improper disposal and management of face masks, environmental degradation, effects on Agricultural production, sanity awareness and face mask disposal programme.

 They accused the Government stakeholders of not acting on laziness towards improper disposal of waste. They claimed it poses risks to adverse spread of Covid-19 to unsuspecting citizen threat to life and public health including Animals and ecosystem, risk of environmental degration and finally drastic effect on Agricultural production.

  In attendance during the joint sitting that included their Kajiado counterparts included Speaker Simon Nyakoe, Deputy speaker Hon Elizabeth Ndung’u, Kajiado Bunge la Mwananchi Chairman Issack Mohamed Ahmed,Chief whip Hussein Hassan and National coordinator Jacob Omondi.

The meeting was also graced by Kajiado North parliamentary aspirant Stephen Mositety Jnr, Dominic Makori MCA aspirant Nkaimurunya ward in Kajiado and Daniel Mwangangi, minister of finance, economic planning and also a representative of people with  disability among others officials.
