The Albinism Society of Kenya (ASK) is appealing to the National Government to ensure that it has added more monies to its kitty in the next financial year.

Addressing the media from a Nairobi Hotel after a three day conference that brought together the Society’s leadership from all the 47 counties, and organised by The National Democratic Institute, they say that it was time the government stopeed slashing their budget allocations to People Living With Disabilities saying that as people who fall into that category, they need a lot ranging from products that they need to use on day to day basis which need a lot of resoucres.

‘Going foward, we are going to push for more resources from the National Government. This is owing to the fact that the government slashed the yearly budget to the People Living With Disabilities by half but due to lobbying, we ensured that was reversed. We now need to ensure the budget is increased,’ they said.

The Society’s leader Senator Isaac Mwaura took the opportunity to hit out at some Members Of Parliament who he said were hellbent to tarnish the otherwise good name of persons living with Albinism.

‘We have people like David Murathe (Jubilee Party Vice Chair) and Junet Mohammed (Suna East MP) who have been going round disgracing us. If you don’t know anything about Albinism, don’t go round exposing your ignorance to the public,’ Mwaura said.

Mwaura also offered that as the Albinism Society of Kenya, they will encourage as many members as possible to vie for elective and nomination posts during the forthcoming general elections.

‘Don’t judge us by our color. We are also able and deserve a place at the high table,’ Mwaura said.
