NMS contract extended to August 2022

The National Government and the Nairobi Metropolitan Services have agreed to extend the 2 year contract for the Nairobi Metropolitan Services ( NMS) to August 2022.
We have established that Governor Ann Kananu and County Secretary Jairus Musumba penned their signature to the extension of the Deed of Transfer of Functions.
Public Service Chief Officer Leboo Morintant who was a witness during the signing of the Deed in 2020 was also present.According to our sources at the devolution ministry, the extension is expected to be made public on Jamhuri Day or a day after.
The Deed of Transfer of Functions was signed in February 2020 by the then Devolution Cabinet
Justus Kathenge who was the Acting County Secretary also signed it.It was set to expire in February 2022 and some gubernatorial aspirants had already made an appeal to Kananu not to agree to any extension proposals.
The extension means that the NMS will be in charge of the county’s major functions until after the general elections when there will be a new governor.Observers opine that the extension has not come as a surprise because this was part of Kananu’s bargaining tool to secure full authority as a substantive governor.
Kananu was sworn in last month as the governor but her nominee for the deputy governor’s position had his swearing in stopped by the courts.
