The meeting held at Atwoli’s Kajiado home brought together a cross section of Nairobi leaders.

According to Wanyonyi, they held a fruitful and ground breaking discussion on variety of issues.

” We held a fruitful and ground breaking discussion on a variety of issues affecting Nairobi’s leadership,my bid for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat and the 2022 elections.

The meeting signals major twist in the contest for the Nairobi seat and in particular the Azimio La Umoja ticket.

After the meeting, Wanyonyi said that his team felt “energized and blessed,”.

Wanyonyi has declared interest in the Nairobi seat and is set to battle for the Azimio La Umoja ticket with Richard Ngatia of Jubilee.

Governor Ann Kananu and business woman Agnes Kagure have also declared interest under the Jubilee banner.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna had on Monday said that ODM will maintain its identity and that it will field candidates in all positions across the country.

” Only Raila Odinga is the Azimio La Umoja candidate.ODM will maintain its identity by fielding candidates in all positions,” Sifuna said.

In Nairobi, the battle for the gubernatorial seat has recently seen serious battles between Wanyonyi and Ngatia with both camps claiming support from President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Makadara MP George Aladwa told the Times that the Nairobi gubernatorial ticket must be given to a candidate from the Luhya community.

Aladwa said that the Luhya community can only feel accomodated in the Azimio La Umoja government if one their own is given the mantle to lead Nairobi which controls over 60% of the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP).

” We are saying that matters to do with Nairobi must be left to the Luhya community and there is no need to negotiate about it,”

Aladwa said that the Luhya community has no problem voting for Raila if he appoints a running mate from Mount Kenya region.

” We have no problem voting for Raila because we love him but on the Nairobi issue we are saying that we are not going to negotiate,” Aladwa said.

Early on Monday, Aladwa and Wanyonyi held talks based on Luhya Unity in Nairobi county politics.

“Our discussion with Hon Tim was based on Luhya unity in Nairobi County Politics and even today Tuesday 1st March 2022 we are meeting Bro Atwoli SG COTU KENYA kwake nyumbani Kajiado County at 11am to discuss our matters concerning Luhya community residing in Nairobi County and the 9 th August 2022 General Election,”
