The sibling rivalry in the Azimio La Umoja Western Kenya chapter continues to escalate day by day.

It has now emerged that DAP-Kenya held a secret meeting to zone and strategize on how to win majority seats in Kakamega County which has been perceived to be under the control of ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The party is targeting to bag the gubernatorial seat, majority of parliamentary and county assembly seats.

MPS who defected from the Musalia Mudavadi led ANC to the party have already agreed in principal that the county must firmly be under the control of DAP.

Lugari Mp Ayub Savula is the favourite to fly the Party Flag in Kakamega gubernatorial race.

The MPs are Ayub Savula (Lugari), Peter Nabulindo (Matungu), Tindi Mwale ( Butere) and senator Naomi Shiyonga ( nominated).

Also in the mix is Kakamega Deputy Governor Philip Kutima who is eying the gubernatorial seat alongside Ayub Savula. It is expected that the two will agree on who to fly the party’s flag but sources from within indicate that the Lugari legislator is considered the favourite.

The team claims that the county is under the capture of a few cartels who serve the interest of top ODM officials, and that there is a scheme to continue controlling county resources through skewed issuance of contracts and development that would favour areas that have benefitted more from the Oparanya administration.

In their calculations, they have vowed to ‘militarise’ voters in the Northern part of Kakamega and pursuade them into voting one of their own, a move if supported by the voters will see the region also benefit like the Southern Kakamega.

The populous Likuyani, Lugari, Malava, Lurambi and Navakholo constituencies have been earmarked as key to their plan.

They have lamented unequal distribution of jobs in the county administration, biased allocation of tenders to a few ODM individuals at the expense of youths and women among others.

A source who confided in this writer revealed that a major meeting has been scheduled to spearhead separate campaigns aimed at making the party more popular in all the five counties in the region.
