Ngatia Dismisses Reports That Igathe is Preferred Candidate
The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Boss Richard Ngatia has maintained that he is still on the race to become Nairobi Governor.
However, he will still await the decision of the Azimio One Kenya coalition party leadership, whose Jubilee party is part of.
“I am still in the race until it is determined. I understand there are consultations going on but I’m sure no one has been endorsed this is a decision we leave to the party leaders to decide,” said Ngatia.
The remarks come following rumours that he might have been shortchanged after the reports that former deputy governor Polycarp Igathe was the preferred jubilee candidate.
“And it’s just yesterday I had that he’s interested and he’s vying for the position, but I’m not sure that he has been picked, neither has anybody been endorsed. That’s a decision that will be made in consultation with the Right Honourable Raila Odinga,” Ngatia added
Ngatia is seeking to succeed Governor Ann Kananu as the fourth governor of Nairobi and maintains that there is a need for consensus among the coalition candidates.
He added: “ We can all be governors but we need one governor, we have seen the choices of the Nairobians’ during the various campaigns on the ground and the party has structures to know who is popular.”
Whoever Azimio One Kenya Coalition party will settle on, will battle it out with Kenya Kwanza coalition’s candidate and current Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja among other candidates.
