Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu has welcomed Azimio’s coalition’s decision to field Polycarp Igathe for the Nairobi Governor seat.
Kananu on Wednesday promised to rally her supporters behind Igathe, exuding confidence that the Igathe ticket together with his running mate Philip Kaloki will emerge victorious.
She was speaking at City Hall when she hosted Igathe and his campaign team for a tour at the county offices.
” I want to assure everyone and all my supporters that we are going to work with Igathe who was picked by our party leaders. We are going to give him all the support he needs,” Kananu said.
Kananu explained that her decision to drop her bid in support of Igathe is informed by the need to support and respect Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leaders.
On his part,Igathe welcomed Kananu’s support and promised to work with all candidates in Nairobi.
Igathe emphasized the unity call, noting that his government will accommodate everyone,”
” This is the time that we need to come together and work as a team because our agenda is to win and make Nairobi great again,” Igathe said
The two asked losers who lost in party primaries in Nairobi within the Azimio Coalition to remain intact and not to run as independent candidates.
Kananu’s move makes her the first to publicly endorse the Nairobi Line-up.Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi and business woman Agnes Kagure were also in the race and are yet to come to terms with the decision to field Igathe.
On Monday, Wanyonyi announced that he is taking a two-weeks break from active politics before announcing his next move.
On the other hand, reports have been rife that Kagure is considering running as an independent.
Kenya Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Richard Ngatia is expected to make public his decision after being pictured with Igathe on Sunday, two days after the former was picked as the coalition’s flag bearer.
At the City Hall meeting,Igathe announced that he will begin his official campaigns of Wednesday, with the first meeting scheduled at Charter Hall where he will meet all county staff.
” We are going to hit the ground running from Wednesday with a very strong message of change,” he said.
