Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko who is Wiper Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant said he is determined to upset the status quo in the gubernatorial race ahead of the forthcoming general election.

He urged his supporters to remain calm assuring them there is no cause for alarm as the dust will settle soonest.

“I am a law abiding citizen and I will fight for my constitutional rights,” he pointed out.

Sonko said he is optimistic he will overcome the hurdles on his path and will be in the gubernatorial race to succeed outgoing Mombasa governor Hassan Ali Joho in this year’s polls.

He was briefing the media after a luncheon with GEMA members residing in Mombasa at the Railway Club in Mombasa county.

The Wiper aspirant told journalists he had already furnished the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with the  requisite documents the electoral body had asked.

Sonko added he will go by the court decision whatever the outcome of the ruling may be.

He defended his action to block the  gubernatorial candidates from being gazetted saying he was acting within the law and it was his constitutional right to make such a move.

“The move I have taken ahead of the August polls is within my constitutional rights,” he pointed out.
