By Isabella Maua
Bungoma County governor Wycliffe Wangamati has on Sunday been endorsed by Kaabooraak clan of the Sabaot community living in Mt.Elgon.
During the colourful event which was marked by many clan rituals, special ordaining of the govenor as well as name giving, the clans men gave their blessings and assured residents that their votes will only be to seal the ancestral prophecy.
Council of Elders chairman Henry Chepkurui, reassured the governor that this time round Sabaots will not miss the target but put all their votes in one basket.
“We are actually regretting our mistake in 2017,we just hadn’t known that you are our uncle but come August 100% of Elgon votes are a sure bet for you to defend your seat,” he affirmed.
The governor in his acceptance speech could not hide his gratitude for the massive support he has been accorded by the Sabaots without forgetting to mention his long time controversial closeness with the incumbent MP Fred Kapondi who was also in attendance.
“I am more than grateful for the unconditional love and support you have shown me as Sabaots, I promise to work very closely with your chosen MP Kapondi who’s my long time friend to ensure Elgon’ s developmental narrative is changed for the better,” Wangamati mentioned.
He did not hesitate to remind the multitude of over 4,500 people that construction of the recently launched KMTC at Kapsokwony is underway and scholarships funds will be released by next week to the beneficiaries who have had been sent home for school fees.
The governor bitterly condemned the propaganda being sold by Kenya Kwanza team (of Lusaka his greatest competitor in the race ) that his scholarship program was a charade.
“I had a meeting last week with the controller of budget and 140 Million shillings will be released next week and disbursed to all scholarship students,” he revealed.
Area MP Kapondi strongly supported the principal’s sentiments and promised to ensure a state of art education infrastructure in Kopsiro area once back in office.
“Education is the only equalizer but sadly Kopsiro happens to be the most backward ward in the constituency, together with our governor I pledge to bring a new look in schools around and start others that are up to date,” Kapondi reiterated.
Former Deputy governor Hillary Chemoywo’s support for Wangamati was evident when he commended him for being veracious and virtuous with the Sabaot community.
“Since the day you held my hand I’ve never been the same and my people have since witnessed your deeds, you have earned our trust by always keeping your promises so rest assured of the next term in office,” Chemoywo articulated.
Among other attendants were Charles Ngome (now in the senatorial race giving Wetangula a run for his money), Evans Murumba( the governor’s running mate as well as County Chief Officers Abidan Kapchanga, Sichei, Murgor and Pamela Serut (wife to former area MP late John Serut).
