GEFOK wins a popular environmental award
The Green Economy for Kenya (GEFOK) has won the Hummingbird Environmental Award 2022 Youth Category.
In the event organized by The Millennial Environmentalists in partnership with Green of Africa Foundation and WWF-Kenya, it was established that Habitats are Functioning across terrestrial (forests and rangelands), freshwater and marine ecosystems while they are protected, restored and are climate resilient.
GEFOK lauded for active involvement in ensuring that work designed to transition to the green economy is consistent
with the Sustainable Development Goals. The civil society organization was involved in various activities including the involvement in planting one million trees by Green Blue Africa Foundation.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GEFOK, Mr. Benard Kioko Ndaka has urged Kenyans to give back to the community through environmental conservation for future generations.
“Kenya’s natural resources are diminishing fast, while the human footprint is increasing. The root causes include large scale infrastructure development, rampant illegal wildlife trade, expanding agriculture, investments in extractive industries and climate change,” said Mr. Kioko during the event.
“I accept this award on behalf of Green Economy For Kenya ( GEFOK ), my fellow Young Green Champions, all other groups that supported the course , family and friends. I was humbled to be the first recipient of this amazing environmental award. Thank you so much all amazing people who have always been there for this great course. Let’s not stop here, we are destined for greatness. Successful people believe that greatness is not of them but through them,” he further stated.
