Mandera South Member of Parliament Haro Abdul Ebrahim commonly referred to as Kore is planning to bring to the floor of the House a Bill that will see Pastoralist Communities benefit from insurance cover for their Livestock.

This, the lawmaker said, is doing with close collaboration with other legislators from the Arid and Semi arid regions which currently bear the Greatest risk owing to the prolonged drought.

“Drought is a cyclic issue in Mandera and Northern parts of this country. You are either in a middle of a one drought, or you are preparing to get into one or you are struggling to get out of one.

And it’s there with us Today, it was there yesterday and tomorrow it will be there. The question is to ensure that we have a long term solution to the drought issue. As a caucus of Pastoralist Members of Parliament, we are about 105, we are the largest bloc in the House, we met the other day and we agreed we are going to bring some polices to the benefit of our people and in particular I’m going to work on a bill on livestock insurance so that the pastoralist communities can benefit whenever there are faced with such a calamity.”

Mr. Kore also highlighted on the need of the Constituency Development Fund NG-CDF to be enhanced.

“The President indicated the importance of CDF and he has assured us even in our PG meeting that the fund is not going to be abolished but it will be improved because the MPs are going to be given an oversight fund so that they can oversight the kitty very well.”
