Tharaka-Nithi Gets First Cabinet Post Since Independence

The business community from Tharaka-Nithi county residing in the coast region has applauded President William Ruto for nominating former county senator Prof. Kithure Kindiki for the position of Interior Cabinet Secretary.
Led by Mombasa businessman Benjamin Mutugi they said Ruto’s administration has made the county be in the country’s history for having one of its own fly a ministerial flag for the first time since independence.
They added that Kindiki’s nomination as Interior Cabinet Secretary is a bold step by the Kenya Kwanza administration as he is the first such appointment from the former Eastern Province.
The business community said they were left speechless when the Head of State fulfilled his campaign pledge.
They were addressing journalists during a media briefing at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The community spokesperson said they are happy to feel part and parcel of the country by flying a ministerial flag in the county.
Mutugi lauded Ruto’s administration for recognizing them for the first time since independence.
He insisted history will be written that Ruto’s administration honored one of their own with a ministerial slot which never happened in the previous administrations.
“Despite the county having popular votes it has never been remembered by any of the previous Heads of State in their ministerial appointments.
The spokesperson thanked the Head of State for awarding them with ministerial slot for the first time.
Mutugi also congratulated Linturi for being nominated for a cabinet position saying he has now a task to perform.
He urged those left out in the nominations to learn to appreciate the government efforts with the limited cabinet positions.
“Let them borrow a leaf from us as we have never had a ministerial slot but remained loyal to the government of the day,” he pointed out.
John Musia, on his part, pointed out that of the 47 counties under devolution they have at last got a ministerial post.
He said the community expects he will serve the country faithfully in line with the constitution.
“This time it is the turn of Tharaka-Nithi county to have a ministerial slot,” he added.
