Ruku Courts KMC in Livestock Offtake Program

Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has pledged grow the market for meat products from his region.
The MP pointed out that he has engaged Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) which has agreed to work with Mbeere North to expand the capacity of the regions slaughterhouses and modernize them for standardized meat products.
“As pledged to the Mbeere North farmers that we will explore all options for value addition to our farm produce, this afternoon I held an inaugural meeting with the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) Managing Commissioner Brigadier James N. Githaga and Chief Operations Officer Col. Omari M. Rajab to discuss multiple areas of collaboration to boost our livestock production and market.
KMC will provide technical expertise and master plans to build cold rooms and abattoirs, train slaughterhouse attendants and other officers.
KMC is also willing to immediately start buying goats and cows in large quantities from Mbeere North from interested farmers and farmers groups and will further contract our farmers to rear goats and cows with KMC as the ready market.
Furthermore, KMC has expressed in collaborating with Mbeere North in including meat products from our (to be) modernized slaughterhouses (abattoirs) into its meat products franchise shops across the country.
KMC will also be partnering with us in the Ishiara Goat Auction in April to sensitize our farmers one best livestock production practices and also as one of the large-scale pre-order goat buyers during the event.
