The government will unveil the new Kenya Ports  Authority [KPA]  Managing  Director before  April 1.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said he has already held a discussion with acting MD Amb. John Mwangemi on the transitional process at the state corporation.

He said they have both agreed to make the transition smooth when the announcement is made on the change of guard.

“The KPA board will play its role and part as required and submit the names for further transmission,” he pointed out.

Murkomen pointed out he trusts the newly constituted KPA board members will carry out the recruitment process above board.

He was speaking during the inauguration of the new KPA Board of Directors held at KPA headquarters in Mombasa County.

The CS said he has faith the authority’s board members will give the government a suitable person who will manage the state corporation for the next three years.

Murkomen, who was flanked by Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Dhagar, said he has the responsibility to play his part when the matter is brought to his attention.

He added his hands are tied and the ball is in the court of the board members to carry out the interview of the applicants for the post.

“The authority board members’ first task will be the recruitment of a new state corporation’s managing director,” he pointed out.

The CS told the board their work is to ensure they get a suitable person in line with the government’s vision.

Murkomen acknowledged the process of recruiting a new MD took a slow pace after the government appointed new board members after revoking the previous appointments.

He pointed out that the new board consists of former Malindi MP Lucas   Maitha, Musa Osman, Emmanuel Kibet, Consolata Lusweti and Caroline Njoki who were to commission and formalize themselves before the process gets underway.

“The new MD will be recruited after undergoing the interview process which must be in line with strategic plans for the future of port operations,” he pointed out.
