Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] General Manager Corporate Services Edward Kamau disclosed the festive season started towards the end of last year, 2022, and is expected to end in April.
He further disclosed so far they have received four cruise ships during this festive season.
“The arrival of the vessels is a great boost to the county’s economy and the country at large,” he pointed out.
Kamau said curio tourism has an effect on the tourism sector through the efforts and collaboration between government agencies and the tourism sector stakeholders.
He was speaking during the reception of MV Artania along berth number one at the port of Mombasa. The luxury ship has over 1000 passengers on-board.
The KPA officer confirmed they work closely with the Kenya Tourism Board [KTB] and other tourism stakeholders to ensure there is a warm reception on the arrival of cruise ships in the country through the port of Mombasa.
Kamau, who represented the authority’s acting Managing Director Amb. John Mwangemi, told the media the vessel is high-capacity in terms of the tourism sector.
He added the tourists who disembarked have gone on excursions to sample the country’s beauty before sailing off to Zanzibar which is the next port of call after Mombasa.
“The port expects another luxury cruise ship by end of April,” he stated.
