DKF, Safisha Saturdays Initiative partner for conservation And Waste Management Awareness

Dedan Kimathi Foundation Environment Conservation team of volunteers led by the Foundation C.E.O – Evelyn W. Kimathi, joined stakeholders in the Safisha Saturdays Initiative.

The program is a series of clean-up activities at Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi. The activities are set to be happening every last Saturday of the month.

A number of tree seedlings donated by the Foundation were planted in the Faculty of Law with the Falculty President Mr. Kirwa, promising to ensure students adopt the seedlings for sustainability.

During the event, the faculty law club patron, Dr. Matata took his time to urge the activity participants to take tree growing positively and forest as much land as possible to replicate the lush Aberdare Ranges climate.

Trash for Tuesday Initiative founder, Ms. Valdoza Mustafa urged the youth to reduce use of plastics, re-use them and recycle the plastic waste while Judge Peter Herbert of Bandung Africa encouraged use of multiple use water bottles to reduce one-time-use plastic water bottles generation.

Madam Evelyn Kimathi, Dedan Kimathi Foundation C.E.O, appreciated young people for rising to the occasion in the fight against climate change.

She appreciated the role forest played in providing cover for the freedom fighters during the war against the colonialists, enabling them to win back their freedom and land. She further stated that forests and trees provide oxygen which humans survive on.

She called upon the participants to volunteer in tree growing works as the foundation’s Green Army is doing.

To actualize the 15bn tree growing plan spearhead by President Dr. William Ruto, Evelyn called for increased tree seedlings production through tree nurseries establishment.

She lauded Umma university students for having a tree nursery that provides tree seedlings for greening works at the varsity.

Also present during the event were; KFS, Bandung Africa, Latewa CBO, Trash for Tuesday, Umma university among other environmental conservation groups.
