Hope for bright pupil who resorted to hawking

A smile was put on the face of 15-year old former pupil at Bridge Idea Academy after Mombasa Cement Company gave Dorine Mwadzoya a four year education scholarship and provided for her basic needs.
Dorine, who is suffering from sickle cell anemia, could not join secondary school due to lack of school fees.
She could not report to Kibirgwi girls secondary school in Kirinyaga county as her father could not afford to pay her school fees.
The former pupil at a community primary school in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county, is the second born in a family where the first born had succumbed to the disease she is suffering from.
Dorine sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2022 and managed to score 310 points but had resorted to hawking due to lack of school fees to continue with her education.
The Cement Company feeding and beautification program director Imtiaz Sayani appealed for parents to ensure their chidden access education in the country.

He said the company is ready to assist needy children through corporate social responsibility (CSR) by giving back to society.
“It’s a crime to deny your children access to education,” he pointed out.
Dorine’s ambition to become a medical physician was thwarted due to lack of fees to enroll in a secondary school.
She had said her dream is to become a physician when she completes her education to give back to society.
“I have resolved to do hawking to secure school fees to be able to continue with my education,” she had pointed out.
Dorine had sent a passionate appeal to well wishers to come to her rescue and support her to enable her continue with her education.
She had addressed the media at Frere Town ward in Mombasa county.
Her father, Huxley Mwadzoya, said he has tried his level best for her daughter to pursue her education but he has been unable.
He said despite joining forces with her daughter to secure her a scholarship they have not succeeded.
“My income is low and we are at the mercy of well wishers,” he pointed out.
