Requiem mass for traffic police officer who died on line of duty

A brief requiem service for a police constable in Mombasa who died under mysterious circumstances was held outside Jocham funeral home in Kisauni constituency, Mombasa county.
Julius Mwarwa who was attached to the traffic department at the Makupa police station was involved in a freak road accident which has caused an angry outburst on social media.
The deceased will be laid to rest this weekend at Nyambeho village in Kuria East sub county in Migori county.
During the viewing of the body a somber mood engulfed the requiem service with tears flowing among relatives and mourners.
A local chaplain, Rev Kennedy Kieniyere, presided over the brief requiem service.
He said the work of police officers is a calling to humanity and urged members of the public to understand them while doing their duty.
Mwarwa’s widow Florence Matinde said the family is saddened by the manner in which the death occurred.
She called for government assistance in expediting justice saying they were optimistic they will pull through.
“We appeal to human rights activists to join forces to ensure justice for my late husband,” she said.
Muslims For Human Rights (Muhuri) Rapid Response officer Francis Auma told journalists the case of the deceased has attracted a lot of interest from all fronts.
He warned that any attempt to interfere with investigations into the death of the police officer will be repulsed.
“The deceased was a police officer and a human being who had rights like anybody else,” he added.
