Foreign And Disapora Affairs CS Summoned To Appear Before Defence Committee
The National Assembly Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee has today summoned Foreign and Disapora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua, after he failed to show up at the appointed time of an earlier invite to the Committee.
Dr. Mutua was expected before the Committee to shed more light on his recent communication to all Diplomatic and Consular Missions to deal directly with Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) without having to go through the Ministry.
Members under the Leadership of Vice-Chair Hon. Sheikh Abdullah Bashir (Mandera-North) resolved to summon the CS after he failed to appear citing other official duties.
Dr. Mutua was to appear before the committee today, but instead sent a communication indicating he was engaged in other official duties.
“Looking at the reactions from members we give directive that this time the committee will summon the CS to appear before this committee in person, and he has to appear,” said Hon. Bashir.
Members said that there was need for clarity on the subject Ministry Communication, as it could change the routine of relations between MDAs and the diplomatic community.
Other Committee Members Present were Hon. Hassan Yusuf (Kamukunji), Hon. Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Hon. Elijah Memusi (Kajiado-Central), Hon. Moses Kirima (Imenti-Central), Hon. Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Hon. Teresia Mwangi (Nominated), Hon. Clement Sloya (Sabatia), Hon Zakary Thuku (Kinangop), Hon. Joshua Kandie (Baringo-Central), Hon. (Dr.) Irene Kasalu (Kitui) and Hon. Mohamed Abdikadir (Lagdera).
