Information and communication technologies (ICT) is an integral part of the government national agenda.
Konza Technopolis Development Authority [KoTDA] acting Chief Executive Officer [CEO] John Okwiri said it is an important driver of sustainable growth and employment creation.
He added that access to modern technology worldwide is already explosive with innovative ideas.
“It is access to finance and business expertise, qualified human resources, infrastructure and the right policies which are all needed to shape a genuine digital Kenya,” he added.
Okwiri said it is worth noting that the convergence of technology and sustainability is readily apparent, particularly in the “smart cities” movement.
He was delivering his remarks during the 12th edition of connected summit held at Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort, Diani Kwale county. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi had presided over the official opening of the four-day forum.
The KoTDA boss told an impressive 1,500 delegates that apart from the digital economy growing at a remarkable rate it also grows in creating entirely new opportunities for development around the world.
He pointed out they have seen how digital economy has transformed economies in developed countries as currently all ten largest corporations globally are ICT/Technology enabled.
“Locally, we are seeing digital economy can transform economies in developing countries, citing Kenya,” he added.
The KoTDA acting CEO said cities are required to be self-learning,adjusting and agile governed to power the changing needs of the populations.
