Senate Committee Holds Stakeholder Engagement Retreat

The Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights chaired by Wakili Hillary K. Sigei  three-day retreat held in Naivasha came to a close today.

The inaugural retreat brought together the chairpersons of various organizations, such as KNCHR, NGEC, EACC, CAJ, CoG, the Council of Legal Education, the Kenya School of Law, the Witness Protection Agency, the National Legal Aid Service, IEBC, KLRC, the Registrar of Political Parties, CAF, and LSK.

During the retreat, the Senate Committee was apprised of the functions, objectives, policy directions, major projects and programmes, challenges, legislative gaps, and other proposals from the various stakeholders who participated.

The Committee appreciated the tough environment and budgetary constraints faced by various government agencies and constitutional commissions that participated in this retreat as they seek to fulfill their mandate.

The Senate Committee also recognized the valuable role played by various civil society organizations as well as the LSK in promoting the rule of law and the challenges they face in performing that important role in our society.

Senator Sigei commended the attendees for their commitment to developing strong and reliable partnerships in effectively and efficiently serving the people of Kenya.

 He also applauded the Honourable Senators for their active and engaging participation in the discussions, which reflected their commitment and desire to develop and strengthen the justice and legal systems in the country.

The meeting was attended by Senators Veronicah Maina, Catherine Mumma, Raphael Chimera, Hamida Kibwana, Okoiti Omtatah, and Karen Nyamu. Okoiti Omtatah and Karen Nyamu.
