Ruto’s bid gets a major boost
Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry [KNCCI] Vice President Dr Eric Ruto’s bid to unseat chamber President Richard Ngatia got a major boost when Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir threw his weight behind him.
This was during a well-attended meeting of KNCCI delegates drawn from Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties organized by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Suleiman Shahbal who doubles up as Chairman of the Communication, Trade and Investment Committee.
The governor called for integrity ahead of chamber national election slotted for June 8.
Abdulswamad insisted nothing supersedes integrity of the chamber’s annual general meeting.
He added the positions being vied for during the polls do not supersede the word integrity.
“Integrity is the key and the delegates should measure integrity before casting their votes,” he said.
Shahbal told Abdulswamad he has no choice but to support Ruto’s bid since on his line-up there is immediate KNCCI Mombasa chapter chairman Mustafa Ramadhan who wants to succeed Ruto as Vice President of the chamber.
He argued the move will be a bold step for the region to have one of their own to hold such a prestigious slot at the national level.
“I am also speaking as chamber stakeholder who is calling for an overhaul of the chamber’s national structure,” he pointed out.
The EALA MP asked the governor to support Ruto’s formidable line-up and his endorsement.
