Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) joined the Africa Energy Forum (AEF) as the first foundation partner, aiming at supporting developing countries’ shift to a clean energy, pro-growth model that ensures universal energy access and economic development.
The GEAPP compromising philanthropist, local entrepreneurs, governments, technology enablers, policymakers and finance partners has given the aef 2023 attendees an opportunity to engage with decision-makers and stakeholders from across the continent and around the world.
The event which kicked off on 20th June to run until 23 June, was officially opened by President William Ruto at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC), Nairobi.
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, in collaboration with Energynet, are the organisers of the forum.
With this year’s forum themed “Africa for Africa – Building Energy for the Just Transition,” the forum aimed to enhance the understanding of Africa’s energy requirements.
“Kenya’s experience of energy sector potential, policies, investment opportunities and projects brings a huge possibilities within the African energy and climate action complex. Decades ago, Kenya boldly invested in the development of it’s renewable energy potential at a time when it was not fashionable to do so, “Said President Ruto at the opening.
“The decision has paid off: Renewable sources form 73% of our installed electricity generation capacity, accounting for over 90% of electricity generated and distributed in the country,” Ruto added.
Energy and Petroleum CS Davis Chirchir noted that the forum will serve as a platform for forging partnerships, identifying opportunities and propelling the industry forward.
