EACC Defends Itself From Mandago scholarship Fiasco

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has come out strongly to defend its role over Uasin Gishu senator Jackson Mandago on the Finland education airlift fiasco.  

EACC chairperson Bishop David Oginde said they were the first government agency to  summon Mandago over the education scandal before the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) came in.

He insisted before other government agencies came in the anti-corruption agency was the first to summon Mandago for questioning.

Mandago was summoned to the EACC headquarters in the capital city for interrogation and to shed more light on the allegations.

He was answering questions from the media after officially closing the annual conference for members of the Institute of Certified Secretaries at Sarova Whitesands hotel in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.

The EACC chairperson refuted claims they had taken a back seat instead of leading from the front.

Bishop Oginde told the media they took up the issue of arresting and prosecuting Senator Mandago after he recorded a statement with them.

He told journalists  they were the first to summon him to probe the fiasco.

“We had information before the DCI moved in on the matter,” he pointed out.

The EACC chairperson expressed his disappointment that county governments are not doing well on the war against graft.

Bishop Oginde has challenged county governors to take a key role in the fight against corruption through leading by example.

He urged them to take a lead role in the war against graft at the devolved units and put them on notice against having a hidden agenda to loot public resources.     

“At this time of transition the governors must take a key role in the war against graft,” he added.
