Post COVID-19 player wins golf tournament at the weekend
A golfer who recovered from COVID-19 pandemic won the NCBA golf series held at Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa county.
Olaf Grothey who was playing off 3 handicap makes a comeback into the golf wining slot after a two year break after the outbreak of the pandemic.
He managed to beat 179 golfers despite the coast region holding two golf events during the weekend.
Grothey, a retired engineer, made a nett score of 72 cross to be crowned overall winner after staying off the course for the past two years due to the outbreak of the deadly disease.
The overall winner will lead six golfers from the golf club at the end of the day’s tournament who will qualify for the national series to be held at the end of the year at the famous Sigona golf club in the capital city of Nairobi.
Men’s cross winner was Mohdhar Abubakar who was playing off 6 handicap after scoring 76 cross.
Jimmy King’ori scored 77 gross to win men’s category while playing off 10 handicap.
Men’s winner on stableford was Michael Kariuki with 44 points playing off 25 handicap.
Former club lady captain Mary Kandu won the ladies title after scoring 87 gross with veteran golfer Truphrena Oyaro playing off 14 handicap winning in the lady cross runners award.
NCBA Group Director Retail Banking Tirus Mwithiga presided over the presentation and awarding ceremony.
